Why Sun Protection Is Part of the Treatment
Of all the aftercare guidance we give, sun protection is the most frequently underestimated — and among the most consequential to ignore.
Why it matters more after treatment
Many aesthetic treatments work by prompting a controlled response in the skin. During the period when the skin is completing that response, it is generally more vulnerable than usual. Unprotected sun exposure during that window is one of the more common reasons a course underperforms.
It matters most for pigmentation
If pigmentation is part of what you are treating, this becomes central rather than peripheral. Sun exposure is a major driver of pigmentation, so treating pigmentation while continuing to expose the area without protection is working against yourself. It is genuinely one of the most common reasons pigmentation treatment disappoints.
Practical points people miss
Sun exposure is not only about deliberate time outdoors. Daily commuting, walking between buildings, sitting near a window and time on a balcony all accumulate. Cloud cover reduces but does not eliminate UV. And a single morning application is generally not sufficient for a full day of exposure — reapplication matters.
The right product for you after a specific treatment is something we will advise on directly, because skin can be sensitive during recovery and not every formulation is appropriate at every stage.
Treat it as part of the plan
We include sun-protection guidance in every treatment plan, and for pigmentation plans without exception. It is not an optional extra suggested on the way out — it is part of what makes the rest of the work hold.
